Yes, the seal which I'm talking about is the circular seal around the pulley shaft behind the pulley. I hope you meant that seal. If it leaks, it will drop a few drops underneath the area. You can maybe check the leak after removing the pulley guard. The leak is on the inner side of the pulley so there should be just a little oil spray or splatter there. The outside stays clean and dry.
You need to remove the pulley, spacer and some kind of retainer to get at the seal. The engine oil is no problem, you don't need to let the oil out when replacing the seal.
